The FinePix V10 Zoom is Fujifilm's latest compact digital camera with some unique features:
- a huge 3" LCD screen;
- 4 inbuilt retro-style computer games to keep you occupied when there is nothing to photograph; and
- ISO 1600 sensitivity allowing you to take more pictures using ambient light and needing less reliance on the flash.
What games are built into the FinePix V10 Zoom? [TOP]
The games are retro-style affairs called Picture Puzzle, Maze, Break-out and Space Wars. You can customise the games by using photos taken with the camera.
What is this new Natural Light & Flash mode? [TOP]
The Natural Light & Flash mode takes two shots in close succession, one with the flash and one without the flash. You can then select which image you prefer. It is a sort of "flash-bracketing" feature which seems like it could be quite useful.
What size and type of sensor does the FinePix V10 Zoom use? [TOP]
The FinePix V10 Zoom has a 1/2.5" Type Super CCD HR with 5.1 million effective pixels. Fujifilm describe this sensor as having "5th generation Super CCD-HR Technology". Super CCD sensors use a honeycomb arrangement for the pixels and require interpolation to produce the image.
What is the continuous shooting speed of the FinePix V10 Zoom? [TOP]
The FinePix V10 Zoom can shoot at 3.2 frames per second (fps) for up to 3 frames. This is a pretty mediocre continuous shooting rate and number of frames.
What storage media does the FinePix V10 Zoom use? [TOP]
Like all of Fujifilm's compact cameras the FinePix V10 Zoom uses xD-Picture Cards which Fujifilm claims provide "lower power consumption and fast write speeds". xD cards are usually more expensive than similarly sized SD or compact flash cards. In addition, you are probably not going to be able to use them in another digital camera unless its from Fujifilm or Olympus. Tests on Fujifilm cameras that have both xD and compact flash slots show that the xD cards are slightly faster but that is probably only because the compact flash write performance of Fujifilm cameras is typically woeful ( eg. the S7000 cannot take advantage of any compact flash card faster than about 25x - so using an 80x compact flash card with the S7000 gives you no additional benefits - see S7000 FAQ ).
Does it have an optical or electric viewfinder? [TOP]
The Fujifilm FinePix V10 Zoom does not have an optical or electric viewfinder. All framing is done with the huge 3" rear LCD screen.
How big is the LCD display on the FinePix V10 Zoom? [TOP]
The rear mounted LCD is huge at 3" and fairly high resolution with 230,000 pixels.
What batteries does the FinePix V10 Zoom use? [TOP]
The Finepix V10 Zoom uses an NP-40 Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery.
Is there a movie mode? [TOP]
The movie mode on the FinePix V10 Zoom is good, featuring 640x480 resolution at 30 fps with sound. This is to be expected from Fujifilm cameras as they have for many years featured 640 x 480 30fps movie modes. What is a little disappointing is that the FinePix V10 Zoom still uses mjpeg compression for movies, unlike a number of other recent cameras that use mpeg4 compression which provides for similar quality but with smaller file sizes so you can capture longer movies on the same sized card. It does not look like you can zoom while filming ( cf. Canon S2 IS ).
When will the FinePix V10 Zoom be available? [TOP]
The Fujifilm FinePix V10 Zoom is expect to ship around March 2006.
